Cardfight Budgetguard 2: Angel Feather Legion

This time on Budgetfight we are going to divine the secrets of the Angel Feather Legion Deck...
On A Budget!
PR-0133EN (Sample) PR-0132EN (Sample)

Our deck is focused around the Legion pictured above. The legion skill gives all units in your front row +2000 and then if you have either Malchidael or Asmodel in your damage zone face up then you give them an additional +2000 power. That's a total of +4k! Letting you hit for 21+k very easily in your rearguard columns. The other important thing is the power it applies to the vanguard. Note how I italicized "all" when explaining the ability. It means that both the legion and its mate are getting +4k. Lets do some addition for unboosted power on the Malchidael Legion. 20k for Legion + 4k for mate +4k for legion and +3k for having another unit in the center column which ends up being 31k with no booster. I should note that the non legion skill is relevant for attacking for 21k with a 7k booster before legioning but that is less important. Cost for the pair: $4

Next before looking at any other options we need to look at the price of sentinels because if we want to stay competitive we will need them.  The cheaper of the two perfect guards for Angel Feather is Pure Keeper, Requiel and is priced at $3.

Total cost for a play set of Legion and Perfect guards: $28

That doesn't leave use a lot of room to buy Rs and RR cards for the deck. So let's compare the 2 most relevant ways to play Malchidael.

     1. Use the 4k power boost to easily set up 21k columns and out power your opponent in this fashion. (this deck will want to use criticals to enhance the high power columns)

     2. Use the 4k power boosts to make all you units relevant for stand triggers and make 12k attackers amazing with them (hits for 21k after stand) and also allows them to hit 16k without a boost. (emphasis on stand triggers)

While I admit that using a critical build with Malchidael will be very effective due to the high power being very hard to guard turn after turn I think that the ability to pump up 12k attackers to 16k is strong enough to go with the stand build. It also helps you cover the lack of advantage that either build will have (You won't always need a booster to make a strong attack).

*Note* Angel feathers are very capable of building lots of advantage in the right build but neither of the versions I could show you will be able to build such an advantage without the Rs and RRs required to do so. I am not willing to skimp on perfect guards or the main boss unit just to add shenanigans.

With that settles the price of Wild Shot Celestial, Raguel, the celestial 12k attacker for Angel Feathers is $0.60 which puts us a tiny bit over budget if we play 4 so we will only run 3. Running 4 is the logical choice but I don't want to break the rules I set out for myself on the second week. I think its ruining the principles I am standing for. There are however 12k attacking grade 3s for $0.20 so we can throw one in to hit budget perfectly

Total Cost: $30.00

The rest of the deck will be fleshed out with commons because we have no more budget.

Deck List:

Starting Vanguard: Hope Child, Turiel

Triggers:
6 stand
3 crit
3 draw
4 heal

G1s:

G2s:

G3s:

Deck Choice Explanation:
Starting Vanguard is Turiel. She is necessary for swapping in either Malchidael of Asmodel into the damage. Your only other option to do this is with the Nociel Stand trigger. There are no common options besides Turiel for damage swapping so she is a must.  I decided on the trigger line up because we want to maximize stands, and want to have enough criticals that guarding our high powered vanguard is important. I included 3 draws to help with the deck's issues with disruption. The other choices are fairly straight forward we use 8k vanilla Grade 1s to create 17k with the mate, 10k attacking Grade 1s to make 17k with themselves, the rest are 12k+ attackers that require some counter blasting.

Match ups: (VS Deck win/loss)

VS. RPBA +Mordred (7/3)
     - Match up tips, For this match up getting a little early aggression is key.  The deck can push out massive amounts from the hand later in the game so try to accelerate to that point by having atleast one rear guard attacker during the mid game. Try to guard early mainly so that you can safely take a hit or two from RPBA them not being able to activate judgebau is more of a bonus because if you hold it off long enough then they won't be able to hit the double sword breaker play and it won't build up an unbeatable advantage.

VS. Thing Saver (3/7)
     - Match up tips, This one is hard match up, while similar to RPBA they are much more effective at retiring your the front row attackers that the deck relies on. Combined with advantage engines that we can't disrupt it can easily snowball out of your favor. Try to play conservatively and not leave your rearguards open to easy retires by blaster blade seeker. Guarding early helps a lot to mitigate losses against Thing Saver's Re-standing turns since Thing saver doesn't retain triggers.

VS. Bluish Flames (2/8)
     - Match up Tips, In this match up a little aggression can go a long way.  by making agressive plays you can take advantage of Bluish Flames slower build up than other decks and try to finish off the game before getting mowed down by an Explosion Blue. Since this deck has no forms of advantage it is really hard to block multiple Explosion Blues. Main tips are be slightly aggressive, get legion as soon as you can and save up for guarding an Explosion Blue. If you can survive one it will put you in a good position to deplete their hand.

Overall Performance:
Unfortunately the deck did not perform very well overall. The lack of a second legion really hurts the deck. Also because I was forced to use perfect guards my ability to legion early was compromised and they took up most of the budget so I wasn't able to use a lot of the powerful options Angel Feather has available. The deck performs very well in the late game and excels in depleting the opponent's hand but is very weak to distruption and doesn't have good way to get them into the late game.

Key Points Required to Master the deck:
     - Practice splitting up Stand trigger effects to make it hardest for the opponent to guard

     - Learn how to guard early efficiently to help you legion faster. Faster legion = fast late game which is where you excel.

     - Wish there was more but this build is pretty straight forward set up the legion skill and stand your now 16k rearguards.

Tips on adding money:
(There are too many ways to play Malchidael to cover them all so I will focus on improving this build specifically.)

The best way in my opinion to help the deck will be to replace the support grade 3s with Ramiel Break Ride.  This will mitigate some of the downfalls of not immediately having Malchidael and also helps to set up the Legion skill without the starter. Also you should replace one Argus with the last Raguel. Another good addition is Candle Celestial, Sariel she will really help with setting up the Legion skill but you don't need to run more than 2 since with 8 copies in the deck they end up in the damage zone quite a bit without you even trying. Lastly you can add more units to swap out things from the damage zone. If you do this I would suggest switching the Starting Vanguard to Thermometer Angel to help you get Malchidael more consistently. You can adding Danielle's but for consistencies sake (high number of 12k attackers) I suggest sticking with Doctroid Argus as the deck doesn't really counterblast anyway. You might also want to consider switching the draw triggers for criticals to take advantage of Malchidaels high power while in legion. There are a lot of situations where they can guard Malchidael and a critical would end it but I got a stand or a draw and my testing opponent was able to barely live through the turn.

Thanks for Reading! Let me know if there is anything I can improve on and/or if you have any clan requests or specific boss card requests. Thanks again!

  1. Do you think that using the celestial legion from GBT04 would be useful as the accompanying G3 for the promo legion?

    1. Definitely! I've tried the deck out and its very consistent. The new legion provides a lot of utility where the promo one provides that overwhelming power.

    1. Sorry for the lateness! I would probably just take the current deck and replace Doctroid Argus with the new mate and Sandalphon and the Mobile hospital for the new Legion. Hope it helps!
