Switched back to Goku this week after redesigning the deck to give me an edge versus CBD (based on my analysis last week) I'll post Goku v2.0 later this week.
So as a header my Goku deck seems to have magical powers of gradelocking my opponents. I don't know why it just seems to happen ALOT as you will see in this tournament report. Its not the first time something like this has happened.
Round 1: Eradicators
My opponent was grade locked a 2 and I never got to see his boss card before I wiped him out. Not super exciting.
1-0
Round 2: Eradicators Vowing Reverse.
I set up my field early and put on a lot of pressure completely destroying his hand. Going into the late game I was very much in the lead but at the end I was just short of being able to guard for 2-pass on his vanguard and his rearguard after he used Reverse's limit break. (22k vanguard with 16k rearguard) I no guarded his vanguard hoping that he wouldn't get the crit, but he did.
1-1
Round 3: Old School Shadows (I played this deck before but someone else was using it)
Yay opponent got grade locked at ZERO. ouch. proceded to destroy him before he got anywhere.
2-1
Round 4: Liberators
I've played this guy before but and I've never seen him use liberators so it was a surprise. He almost got gradelocked at 2 but he managed to topdeck the grade 3. yay for being able to actually have a nice fight. Once again my early aggression and early guarding put me in the lead going into late game. He made a mistake of breakriding Alfred over Gancelot without having much of a field so I didn't really worry about his high powered attacks. Soon after I closed out the game.
3-1
3-1 is a shoe in for top 8 in a 4 round so here we go
Top 8: Pale Moon (Silver thorns luquier)
Game 1 - Opponent was grade locked once again but he double crit me when I no guarded at 3 damage. I guess that's the luck in the world balancing itself out.
Game 2 - he had an early rush but I countered that with my own and used it to wipe out his attackers. Once he had no more attackers I proceeded to beat his face and control his field with Goku. Was far enough ahead from that early play that I snowballed it and won the game.
Game 3 - Opponent GRADELOCKED AGAIN this time at zero. He basically had no chance and I won easily. Off to top 4.
Top 4: Chaos Breaker Dragon
The dreaded Chaos Breaker Dragon master of slow games. I was actually waiting for a match to finish to decide who I was going to play in Top 4 it was CBD vs. CBD just my luck -.-
Game 1 - For once I got grade locked, but it was only for a turn and I managed to put up a fight but I never really had a chance.
Game 2 - filled up my field quick and then pulled a double critical off my FIRST twin drive. which put him to 4 damage. Kept up the pressure but he was able to survive due to multiple heal triggers and then the locking came. I struggled for a long time trying to push through his hand even breakriding Goku over Dauntless fairly early before he could rebuild his hand again. It was a long struggle and he almost decked out but I just wasn't able to fully guard his last turn and had no heals left in my deck.
No Prizes for top 4 with a 4 round tournament :( sad.
Overall I was really happy with the tournament, while I did get a lot of free wins I felt like the games where I didn't win or lose from grade lock were very close and if I was winning I was winning by a good margin so the only thing that really got me a lot of games was just the right amount of luck from my opponent. Goku even went toe to toe with CBD in that last game! Very please with the new version of the deck and hopefully I'll have less gradelock matches next week to test the decks power more.
