Cards of the Week: 8/5/2016

Hey Cardfighters,

Welcome to cards of the week where we go over the japanese spoiled cards each week and talk a little bit about how good or bad they may be. I won't show the exact skills but you can click on the links below the images to take you to the wikia. (Images Courtesy of Cardfight Wikia)

G-BT08-044-R
(Arboros' Defense Wall, Sanelma)
This card is one of those newfangled Quintet Walls (QW). And unfortunately that makes it instantly bad... QW walls are just not strong enough to consistently stop vanguard or rearguard attacks by themselves. Not to mention that Counter Blasts (CB) have become more more important so decks can't usually afford the extra cost as well. The "upside" to this card is being able to return a card from the Guardian Circle (GC) to you hand. I said "upside" because the majority of the time this is going to result in a loss of shield value and then you'll have to place a card back down from your hand ANYWAY. So ya not a great card...

G-BT08-042-R (Sample)
(Arboros' Royal Guard, Aira)
Aira is actually really good. Her first ability will allow same name shenaniganes waaaay easier to help set up for things like Jingleflower and others. It also makes her a 11k attacker which works well with the stands you usually see in Neo Nectar. But the real money is her second ability. Whenever she hits you get a top 5 search for an Arboros unit, and with all the Aroboros support cards using Arboros in their name you are basically guaranteed a successful check. This means you'll be able to add a lot of pressure to your attacks and generate more cards.

G-BT08-021-RR (Sample)
(Flower Princess of Autumn Scenery, Verna)
I have mixed feelings about this card. I think is its really amazing when you have the perfect set up but it really hurts because its almost useless when you play against control decks. I think it will be good as 1-2 copies just to help add shield in those ideal situations, but if you play in a heavy control meta I would highly advise against it. It requires a good set up just to get +10k which is something other G-Guardians have a much easier time acquiring.

G-BT08-029-R (Sample)
(Boulder Fetter, Gjoll)
Ignoring Revelation I think his skill has a lot of potential. I am not sure the deck can afford so many CB sources, but it allows for Soul Blasting outside of the Vanguard attack which opens up a lot more potential plays, so his worth will be dependent on future spoilers. That being said something odd to note is that you can pay his CB ability multiple times to get a big power up and multiple draws if you have a ton of soul to blow through.

G-BT08-059-C (Sample)
(Fetter of Shackles, Gelgia)
This card is suuper good. Granted he has to be in your soul but when he is there just OMG. First of all his ability is FREE!!!! FREE!!! And what do you get for the magical cost of NOTHING? you get +3k power, and if you are on Fenrir you get ANOTHER +3k and a Soul Charge 2. So under the assumption you are playing Fenrir, You not only increase your resources but you also get +6k which can push extra cards out of your opponents hand and its actually slightly better than a straight +6k since you can split it up. Oh and you stand a unit to make up for a Revelation use. More cards like Gelgia will bring up Genesis' power level a ton.

G-BT08-001-GR (Sample)
(Mythical Hellsky Beast, Fenrir)
This card really brings together Revelation for me. The first effect not only magnifies the effects of Revelation but it also removes the downsides. This is a huge bonus for being able to manipulate the top of the deck. The second effect is a bit pricy but it really synergizes well with the Revelation mechanic by letting you draw into specific cards or by soul charging them away and powering up rearguards. Fenrir's role will be as a synergistic utility stride for them. You'll probably use him mid game to either regain advantage or to push your own advantage with deck manipulation and card advantage. Fenrir really embodies Bushiroad pushing the envelope on skills and synergy and makes me excited to see what is to come.

G-BT08-024-R (Sample)
(Flying-rise Knight Danius)
This guy is very cool to me and like Fenrir I like that they are promoting synergistic cards rather than just cards that are good in stand alone I think it will make synergistic decks pop a little more. As for his effects the +1k per brave could be very useful for early game but tops him out at 15k power. His second skill is more exciting because it allows the the bouncing of brave units. This means that you can make really interesting plays and go "all-in" while having some safety involved. Hopefully we'll see some more interesting support to interact with him.

G-BT08-046-C (Sample)
(Escort Eagle)
Dat bird is mostly exciting because of his resist. In a link jokey or a control heavy meta he could be a vital part of a successful part of royal paladin build. He could also make the opponent miscalculate by bumping up your guard value just at the right moment, But the main draw here is the resist.

G-BT08-033-R (Sample)
(Reversal Star-vader, Nobelium)
Yet another new QW. eww..... Nobelium is interesting because it provides a back row low for you opponent mid battle which.... is kinda useless since it will unlock immediately in most cases. Definitely not enough to justify her QW wall status. It has some potential in use in Glendios or Dark Zodiac decks due to their prevention of units unlocking but it is unlikely that these decks will be able to take the top seat from Chaos Breaker variants.

G-BT08-018-RR (Sample)
(Doting Harlequin, Maya)
On the surface she looks pretty interesting, but ultimately she just isn't up to snuff. Having a magia ability isn't very useful and is likely only enabling you to draw a card with Egg Juggler or gain an extra intercept and she only gains +5k shield. Oh and ONLY if you have a Magia VG. If not tough luck, no extra shield and a random soul charge 3. In almost all scenarios you are much better off using the previous G-Guard. Unfortunate.

Well Cardfighters, those are my initial thoughts on all the japanese cards spoiled this week! G-BT08 is looking very promising and I am super excited to see what Bushiroad has up their sleeve for the rest of the support. Let me know what you think of these cards in the comments!
